Thirteen years later, after inheriting the late parents business, she meets and falls in love with one of her staff, Richard who is also a single father of Divine, who is about the same age as Pearl. There is serious drama between the two girls as they fight for attention and dominance in the house until Jane, whom before falling in love with Richard was a chain smoker is diagnosed of cancer of the lungs. The news breaks the whole house as they rally around but she eventually dies. The death of Jane is devastating especially on Richard who totally becomes a shadow of himself. He ignores everything including shaving his beards. Pays less attention to the kids who are constantly trying to help him out of his grieve. During this period, the girls’ home teacher Amanda starts looking after them until. Pearl is then diagnosed with a kidney problem and needing urgent transplant. This gets Richard out of his grieve as he struggles to save his daughter. All efforts to get a donor prove abortive as both Richard and Divine’s kidney’s aren’t a match. Amanda eventually donates hers and Pearl is well again. Richard, with the advice of the girls proposes to Amanda and they live happily ever after.
